"Either you're someone's dog and I'll have to give you back, or you're ridiculously smart and I could probably make a damned mint putting you on show." As if he would ever actually do that.

When the injured paw is presented to him, he's careful in running his fingers over it, watching and listening for any sign of discomfort, until he comes across a thin strip of metal that he doubts somehow got around the dog's foot by accident. He frowns and leans down to get a better look at where it's digging into the toe pad it's up against, then stands and heads for the kitchen. He's got wire cutters, they should work just fine for this.

"Alright boy, you're probably not going to appreciate this much, but I promise it'll feel better when it's done," he says quietly, settling down on the floor and putting his hand out for the dog's paw again, once more locating the ring then working the cutters in in such a way that they can't pinch anything that's not metal or possibly fur if he moves.
